Summary

A magical island。 A dangerous task。 A burning secret。

Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life。 At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records。 As a Case Worker at the Department in Charge Of Magical Youth, he spends his days overseeing the well-being of children in government-sanctioned orphanages。

When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he's given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist。 Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days。

But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps。 Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe。 As Arthur and Linus grow closer, long-held secrets are exposed, and Linus must make a choice: destroy a home or watch the world burn。

An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours

Very cute, a little cheesy but adorable。

"Home is where we get to be who we are"。 This was such a wholesome, cute and sweet book。 I absolutely adored the friendship between the kids, how they have each other's back and help each other in case of need。 How they accept each other and fight for every single one of their siblings。 The kids are all so adorable, with their own stories, hopes and dreams that made me melt into a puddle on several occasions。 This book made me smile, made me laugh out loud, made butterflies flutter in my chest: "Home is where we get to be who we are"。 This was such a wholesome, cute and sweet book。 I absolutely adored the friendship between the kids, how they have each other's back and help each other in case of need。 How they accept each other and fight for every single one of their siblings。 The kids are all so adorable, with their own stories, hopes and dreams that made me melt into a puddle on several occasions。 This book made me smile, made me laugh out loud, made butterflies flutter in my chest: absolutely amazing。 。。。more

This is the best book I’ve read in a long time。 As the review on the front of the book says it’s “nearly perfect”。I laughed。 I cried。 I wanted to read it again as soon as it was over。 What a gift。 This will be a book I recommend to everyone for a long time coming。

I suck at reviews。 This book was beautiful and wonderful and I didn’t think it would make me cry but it did。 This book almost played out like a movie in my head。 Absolutely stunning。

I fell in love with every single character in this book。 A nice break from all the sad stories I’ve been reading lately, this book warmed my heart in ways only the idea of a chosen family can。

I've been incredibly stressed about work and school for the whole month, and also was able to ruin my hand and got stitches。 So the past few weeks have not been the greatest and this book has just been what I've needed。 It's wholesome, lovely and feels like a warm cup of tea on a rainy autumn night。 I've been incredibly stressed about work and school for the whole month, and also was able to ruin my hand and got stitches。 So the past few weeks have not been the greatest and this book has just been what I've needed。 It's wholesome, lovely and feels like a warm cup of tea on a rainy autumn night。 。。。more

I must have read atleast a thousand books in my life so far but this is the first book that featured a same sex couple。 The blossoming love, maturing relationship and the fruitful happily ever after was so endearing that I wish I had read more of these works。

The cover sold me。 Never before has a book’s artwork more effectively sold the tone of the story within - whimsical, warm and colorful。A la Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book, The House in the Cerulean Sea is a magical, fantastical tale that simply teaches some great real-world lessons - about love, family, belonging and acceptance。 It’s warm, charming, quirky and funny。 I found myself smiling at the wit of the author’s writing of deadpan protagonist Linus Baxter and the cast of clever magical childre The cover sold me。 Never before has a book’s artwork more effectively sold the tone of the story within - whimsical, warm and colorful。A la Neil Gaiman’s Graveyard Book, The House in the Cerulean Sea is a magical, fantastical tale that simply teaches some great real-world lessons - about love, family, belonging and acceptance。 It’s warm, charming, quirky and funny。 I found myself smiling at the wit of the author’s writing of deadpan protagonist Linus Baxter and the cast of clever magical children。I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the world Klune has created。 。。。more

This is a book I will talk about for a lifetime! While I listened to the audio, I’m going to purchase a paperback copy for my bookshelf。 It’s going to go right next to 13 Reasons Why for books teens need to read。This story was stunning。 The characters were adorable and witty。 It is Miss Perigrine meets The Addams Family, meets Hotel Transylvania,。 The messages of not judging a book, inclusion, love and friendship were weaved throughout in a natural manner。

Don't get me wrong, I love found family and escapism。 I also think the characters are lovable and the writing was overall good。 However, the whole "white authors using magic as an allegory for racism" thing is dumb and getting really old。 Don't get me wrong, I love found family and escapism。 I also think the characters are lovable and the writing was overall good。 However, the whole "white authors using magic as an allegory for racism" thing is dumb and getting really old。 。。。more

my first 5 star (i would give it 10 if i could) in awhile but so well deserved。 i can’t believe it took me this long to read this gem, i could rave about it for hours。 it was stunning from start to finish and i have never cried or laughed over a book this much。 i fell in love with all the characters and found myself getting mad at those with a certain view of magical beings because i was SO attached to these six beautiful and unique children。 this is by far my favorite book, it was the most feel my first 5 star (i would give it 10 if i could) in awhile but so well deserved。 i can’t believe it took me this long to read this gem, i could rave about it for hours。 it was stunning from start to finish and i have never cried or laughed over a book this much。 i fell in love with all the characters and found myself getting mad at those with a certain view of magical beings because i was SO attached to these six beautiful and unique children。 this is by far my favorite book, it was the most feel-good story i’ve ever read and i already want to experience it all over again!!! 。。。more

This is the book that the hour demands。 The author has brilliantly used fantasy elements to address the blind hate that the world is being filled with。 As people are fighting over land, religion, race, language and all other perceivable ideas that humanity encompasses, this novels shows that there is still some hope left。

A delightful read; I loved it。

This book was found family galore。 If you want a loveable cast of characters and genuinely loathe bureaucracy, this is the book for you。 Our main character, Linus, is an average caseworker at the magical equivalent of CPS; yet his character was lovable, and more interesting than that description would lead you to believe。 His character development was so lovely to see throughout the story and I happily trotted along with him along the way。 The children of The House in the Cerulean Sea were uniqu This book was found family galore。 If you want a loveable cast of characters and genuinely loathe bureaucracy, this is the book for you。 Our main character, Linus, is an average caseworker at the magical equivalent of CPS; yet his character was lovable, and more interesting than that description would lead you to believe。 His character development was so lovely to see throughout the story and I happily trotted along with him along the way。 The children of The House in the Cerulean Sea were unique and very lovable。 I instantly picked Theodore as my favorite in this lovable cast because he was just so darn adorable; even though we never truly hear him speak。 This book had the ultimate slow-burn romance that I haven't really got in a while and it was truly a great pairing。 Great representation and optimistic happy ending。 Easy 5 stars。 。。。more
